Aug 04, 2009 Through craigslist, I got in touch with a guy selling a new-in-wrapper Nike SQ5900 for 100 bucks. I'm supposed to go look tomorrow, and I was wondering if there are some tell-tale things to look for to determine if the club may be a fake.
Hi, I have bought a Nike VRS Covert tour driver off a reputable seller on ebay. I received the club yesterday and there is no serial number on the club. I dont really have any major worries about the authenticity of the club, and have found posts online about Nike clubs not always having serials, but these always related to older Nike clubs, and I couldn't find anything about this model. The seller says he has a couple more of the drivers in stock, one of which has a serial but the other doesnt - he says he is awaiting an answer at the moment from the Nike rep as to why. Has anyone else come across one of these drivers without a serial?
My main concern is resale value - If it should have a serial and doesn't, even if the club is 100% genuine, it is bound to put buyers off. It was bought from a golf pro from a golf club in the south west of England, so I am pretty sure the seller is legit. The seller has been on ebay for 10 years and says he will forward an email to me from the Nike rep, assuming the rep comes back with a genuine reason. Either way though, I am thinking if I keep the club, I am going to be stuck with something that people will question, regardless of whether or not I have an email from Nike (as anyone buying the club is likely to question whether or not the email is legit!) not that I will necessarily want to sell it, but if I do, I dont want to be out of pocket.

Well thats the thing - it would always be in the back of my mind, wondering myself!!! Not that I necessarily place a great deal of confidence in serial numbers anyway!! I had a set of Burner Irons that I knew to be genuine - I registered them online with Taylormade, and expected an email confirmation or some kind of response (all I got were loads of marketing emails) So I rang Taylormade, and was told over the phone that there was no record of the serial number on the clubs - she followed that up by saying that I neednt be concerned though, because that happened a lot and wasnt a sign that the clubs were fakes!!!! Wont bother doing that again. Hi, I have bought a Nike VRS Covert tour driver off a reputable seller on ebay. I received the club yesterday and there is no serial number on the club.

The club is new, but I saved a few quid over buying it from one of the main retailers. The Ping G25 queries - this is exactly why I am thinking about resale value - I still have the ping and love it, but I get enticed by shiny things hence I decided I would have a go with the Nike Covert. I know everyone says go and hit a club a few times before buying one, but it usually takes me a little while to get used to new clubs, so I plan on giving the covert at least 3 or 4 rounds before deciding if it stays in my bag.
If not, it will be back on ebay - where the lack of serial number becomes a concern!!!
